Chiropractic Insurance

There are two main things to think of when it comes to chiropractic insurance.  The first, and maybe more obvious of these things is health insurance.

Not all health insurance plans cover chiropractic care unfortunately.  It is important to check with your insurance provider to find out if you are covered for chiropractic care and if you can see the chiropractor you want to see.

There are many forms of insurance that cover or may cover chiropractic care.  There are PPOs which probably cover the most chiropractic care and chiropractors of all private insurance.  There are also HMOs which may cover chiropractic care and usually have lists of chiropractors that are covered under their plan.  A lot of patients of chiropractics are also covered under worker’s compensation insurance plans.  Then there are also patients that are covered under government programs like Medicare and Medicaid.  These programs all cover any chiropractic care and any chiropractor the patient wants.  About 80% of the patients of chiropractics have insurance coverage.

Chiropractic insurance has a different meaning than health insurance for chiropractors.  Chiropractic insurance also means chiropractic malpractice insurance for chiropractors.  It is necessary for all chiropractors, and all doctors, to have malpractice insurance.  This protects both the doctor and the patient in the long run.  Chiropractors can expect to pay around $2,000 annually for malpractice insurance (a small fraction of the sometimes $200,000 and up high risk doctors are required to pay each year).
