Chiropractic Massage
One of the main parts of chiropractics that is sometimes overlooked by the general population is the use of massage therapy in order to encourage health and healing.
Most, if not all chiropractors use massage in their practice to help their patients recover and maintain health.
One of the main tools used for massage therapy in chiropractic offices is electrotherapy. Electrotherapy involves the use of electrodes on a patient’s back. These electrodes send electronic pulses to the nerves and feel like a deep massage to the patient. This massaging sensation helps the muscles and tissues to heal and the spine to become healthier. The chiropractor will usually apply a cooling gel to the problem areas of the back or neck and then apply the electrodes. A heat pack may also be used at this point in order to help the process.
Some chiropractors also use ultrasound therapy as a form of massage therapy. The sound waves from the ultrasound equipment penetrate into the muscles and tissues and sort of gently massage them with tiny motions. This tissue massage helps promote the health of the back and spine and therefore the overall health of the patient.
After these massage therapies, the chiropractor will manually adjust the spine and/or neck of the patient. Chiropractors and their patients believe that a healthy spine (achieved through chiropractics) leads to total body health. It seems obvious that the spinal health is tied into the nervous system health since they are so closely connected, but it is also believed that a healthy spine can lead to a healthy digestive system, immune system, or cardiovascular system, or any other party of the body.
