Most people around the world, and especially in the United States where we have privatized health care, know the importance of having good insurance coverage.  There are many different kinds of insurance coverage and even more degrees of coverage based on your insurance provider and your insurance plan.

One medical field that insurance plays an important role in is chiropractic medicine.  Chiropractics have the reputation of being quite expensive.  It is highly recommended that you get an estimate from your chiropractor (even if you have insurance coverage) before beginning any treatment.  Even good insurance can sometimes cover only up to 80% of medical costs so medical care can still be expensive.

One form of insurance coverage is private insurance.  This kind of insurance can be broken down into PPOs or HMOs.  Both can be good forms of insurance coverage depending on individual needs and preferences.  PPOs tend to have more freedom of selection of doctors and health care providers but also tend to be more expensive for the insurance holder.

There is also Workman’s Compensation insurance which tends to come into play quite a bit in the field of chiropractics.

There is also Medicare and Medicaid which are government services which help to provide free medical services to disadvantaged people in need of that medical care.

All of these forms of insurance have varying degrees of coverage which mean that the insurance holder will be able to see different chiropractors and pay different amounts for their care.  All forms of insurance coverage have their advantages and disadvantages, but having insurance is definitely a better option than not having any.
