Chiropractors, like all doctors, have to go through extensive training and education before they can begin practicing.  Not surprisingly, becoming a chiropractor involves a lot of time in school.

First, those wishing to attend chiropractic school must complete a degree in an area of science.  The degree can be in any area of science and some common degrees are in biology, anatomy and physiology, or health sciences.  It is currently required that you complete a two year degree but it is highly recommended that you get a four year degree and it will probably be required soon that you have that four year degree.

Once this part of your education is completed, it is time to think about chiropractic schools.  You can expect to spend between 4 and 5 years in chiropractic schools.  The last year of this education is spent in the field practicing and learning from an experienced chiropractor.

There are quite a few choices when it comes to what chiropractic school to attend.  There are about 20 chiropractic schools across the United States that are accredited by organizations like the CCE or Council on Chiropractic Education and the ACA or American Chiropractic Association.

These schools are spread across the country with the most concentrated in California.  There are four total chiropractic schools in California including the Los Angeles College of Chiropractics of the Southern California University of Health Sciences.  There are two chiropractic colleges in Texas including the Texas Chiropractic College.  There are also chiropractic colleges in Oregon, New York, South Carolina, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, and Minnesota among others.
