Depending on your relationship with the field of chiropractics, you probably have a different idea about chiropractic insurance than others do.  For example, if you are a chiropractor or work in the chiropractic field insurance for chiropractic probably refers to chiropractic malpractice insurance.  If, on the other hand, you are a chiropractic patient, chiropractic insurance to you probably means chiropractic health insurance.

For chiropractors, medical malpractice insurance is a necessary annual cost.  A chiropractor, or any other doctor, cannot practice without this necessary precaution in place.  Chiropractors get off easily compared to most doctors since their average annual cost is much less than the average cost of malpractice insurance for other types of doctors.  It has been estimated that an M.D. can pay anywhere from about $20,000 to $200,000 annually for malpractice insurance.  This cost can be even higher for high risk doctors like surgeons.  Chiropractors however can expect to pay about $2,000 a year for their malpractice insurance.

For patients, insurance has an entirely different meaning and different set of emotions attached to it.  It is almost necessary in this day and age with the cost of medical services to have a good insurance provider.  A recent study has shown that about 80% of chiropractic patients paid for their treatment with some form of insurance.  This can be private insurance, Workman’s Compensation, Medicare, or Medicaid among other forms of insurance.  There are only about 20% of chiropractic patients that pay for their treatment in cash, out-of-pocket.

Whether you are a doctor or a patient, chiropractic insurance is an important part of your chiropractic care.
